I offer training towards the National Private Pilot’s Licence (Microlight) — NPPL(M), as well as the “Strip Skills Course”, as a CAA-Qualified Flight Instructor.
The NPPL(M) flight course is completely tailored to you — your pace, your schedule, and your budget. Everyone learns differently, so no two students are the same.
That said, maintaining a regular flying rhythm is highly recommended. Flying is a perishable skill, and you’ll progress faster (and more cost-effectively) if you fly consistently — avoiding the need to re-learn previous exercises.
🛩️ What You’ll Learn
The course will teach you to fly safely, confidently, and competently, including how to handle emergencies should they arise.
Training follows the 18 flight exercises laid out in the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) Handbook, leading up to your final flight skills test.
🎓 Licence Options
There are two levels of NPPL(M) qualification:
🟢 Restricted NPPL(M)
- Minimum 15 hours of flight training
- Permits flight within an 8 nautical mile radius of your takeoff point
- Passenger carriage not permitted
- You can later build your navigation skills and remove the restriction once you reach the required standard
🔵 Unrestricted NPPL(M)
- Minimum 25 hours of flight training
- Includes aircraft handling and navigation training
- Allows you to fly cross-country and carry passengers once qualified
- Opens up a whole new world of freedom and adventure
💡 Please note: The hours listed are minimums only. Most students take longer — typically 40–50 hours — depending on age, aptitude, and flying frequency. Very few people finish in the absolute minimum time (unless you’re a teenage Einstein with lightning reflexes and movie-star looks! 😄).
📘 Ground School & Exams
There are five theory exams required for your licence:
- 🧾 Air Law
- 🌦️ Meteorology
- 🧠 Human Performance
- ✈️ Principles of Flight
- 🗺️ Navigation
We can supply all the approved study materials and books to help you prepare.
